OUR STORY
At Josephs Jewelers, our story begins in 1861 when Solomon Josephi immigrated from Prussia to the United States, bringing with him a dedication to craftsmanship and a desire to build something lasting. After learning the watchmaking trade, he made his way to Des Moines in 1862 and joined Plumb Brothers Jewelry, laying the foundation for what would become Josephs.
In 1871, we established S. Joseph and Sons in the Kirkwood Hotel at 4th and Walnut. In those early years, we offered watches, eyeglasses, and repair services, growing alongside the Des Moines community we were proud to serve. By 1900, we expanded into fine jewelry and giftware, marking an important step in shaping the Josephs you know today.
As we continued to grow, we expanded to multiple locations throughout the Midwest in the early 20th century. While our footprint evolved over time, our commitment to quality, service, and trust never changed. From being one of the original tenants at Merle Hay Plaza in 1959 to opening in Valley West Mall in 1991, we have always embraced growth while staying true to our roots.
In 2005, we opened our flagship location on Mills Civic Parkway in West Des Moines, bringing together our collections and services under one roof. In 2016, we unified our locations, and today, we continue to invest in our future with ongoing updates and expansion.
For more than 155 years, we have remained family owned, guided by the same values of integrity, trust, and service that defined us from the very beginning.
